EA’s new teaser for Star Wars: BF2 Brings reveals new battles, unlikely match-ups, and a new hero.
This weekend Star Wars fans gathered for the annual Star Wars Celebration event. The event honored icons like Carrie Fisher and shed light on all things Star Wars in the upcoming year. Right now, the internet is really worked up over Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer, so it may be easy to overlook another property in the franchise. EA and DICE showed off the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront II including expanded multiplayer and a new single player mode.
Back to the Battle
As part of the star Wars Celebration event, EA held a panel and shared a new trailer to shed more details on the upcoming Battlefront 2. The sequel the 2015 multiplayer title boasts even larger multiplayer battles and will give players the opportunity to take part in battles across the Star Wars timeline. Its online structure allows EA to combine Star Wars eras so you can expect to see heroes new and old including the newest additions to the Star Wars universe from the most recent trilogy.
Players will be able to ake part in even larger battles with up to 40 participants in what EA describes as “deep class based gameplay”. You will see many of the iconic Star Wars vehicles on the ground and during space battles. In space, up to 24 players can participate in dogfights. Something to be very excited about is that console players will be able to enjoy an offline split-screen co-op where you can play with a friend and earn upgrades you can later use in online play. No online split-screen is disappointing but given the rarity of split-screen, even an offline mode is appreciated.
The objective based battles allow players of all kinds to enjoy the experience but EA is going a step further but adding a progression system that will allow players to customize their favorite characters precisely to their play strengths.
Single Player Focus
This teaser focuses on the single player campaign – something that Battlefront has historically lacked. It will follow Iden Versio, commander of Inferno Squad—an Imperial special forces unit. It is annual decision to focus on an Imperial soldier given the franchise has traditionally maintained a rather clear vision of who the heroes of the Star Wars universe are, the resistance. According to the game’s website, we will follow Iden “in a story of revenge, betrayal, and redemption that spans 30 years”.
Does that mean she will turn to the light side at some point? Only time will tell but it should be interesting to see things from the perspective of the Imperial forces on the ground, or at least the ones who aren’t being blown up on space stations all the time. Hopefully, the story will be fleshed out, and it will be something we can all enjoy. Watch the trailer below:
